Would have been better if Ajinkya Rahane was dropped from the Test team – Zaheer Khan
Despite the backing of the team management, Ajinkya Rahane has not been able to justify his place in the playing XI. There was a lot of discussion about sending Ravindra Jadeja ahead of Ajinkya Rahane in the ongoing fourth Test. However, the move backfired as the visitors were folded easily by England bowlers.
Meanwhile, Zaheer Khan has spoken about Ajinkya Rahane’s performance in the Test format. According to him, it would have been better if the Indian vice-captain was dropped from the playing XI. Rahane had registered a string of low scores in the last few series.
Zaheer feels it is better to rest the players who are struggling.
“Would have been better if Rahane had got a break. There is a lot of pressure on him. And sometimes it is better that you take the player out of that pressure than to let him bear that. Let him work on the technique and get the clarity and then from there you can move forward,” Zaheer Khan said in an interaction with Cricbuzz.
The right-handed batsman was dismissed by Craig Overton. Zaheer Khan further added that the batsman is struggling because of his technique.
“One innings left. It has to be seen how much change he can make in this short time. I feel the story is more about the technique. Even the condition did not go in that much favour today as there were overcast conditions in The Oval and a bit of extra bounce was also there and thus he didn’t get much help,” Zaheer Khan added.
