World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten likely to become head coach of Pakistan

Former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten, who won the 2011 World Cup with Team India, is likely to become Pakistan’s new head coach. Apart from him, Simon Katich and Peter Moores are also interested in the role.

After Misbah-ul-Haq’s resignation just ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup, Saqlain Mushtaq was given the responsibility to manage the national team. Along with him, Matthew Hayden and Vernon Philander were appointed as batting and bowling consultants.

Ramiz Raja, the new chairman of the PCB, wants a foreign coach for the national team.

Kirsten represented South Africa in 101 Tests and 185 ODI matches, scoring 7289 and 6798 runs respectively.

Babar Azam-led team has performed exceptionally well in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the UAE, defeating India and New Zealand in the first two games.
