Who trains umpires? Twitter fumes after 3rd umpire makes mistake in PBKS vs RCB game
The quality of umpiring has been poor in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. In one of the matches between KKR and PBKS, Rahul Tripathi took a low catch to dismiss KL Rahul but the third ruled in favour of the batter after the on-field umpires were not able to come to a conclusion.
Another such incident took place in the ongoing match between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Devdutt Padikkal was the batter and K Srinivasan was the third umpire on this occasion.
The left-handed batter was not able to play Ravi Bishnoi’s googlies properly and tried to play a reverse sweep to break the shackles. But he missed the shot and the ball landed in the hands of KL Rahul.
The on-field umpire didn’t give the batsman out and the PBKS skipper decided to go for a review. The ultra edge showed a spike when the ball went past the gloves and the decision should have been reversed.
However, the third umpire said: “There is no bat involved.” He didn’t consider the spike off the glove and directed the on-field umpire K Ananthapadmanabhan to stay with his decision. KL Rahul was not happy as Punjab lost their only review due to a completely wrong decision. Fans and cricket experts slammed the third umpire for making a blunder.
Who trains umpires in India? Why have they been so incompetent for so many years, with the odd exception. How can they not be properly trained for a tournament as big as the IPL? Just baffles me. #IPL2021 #RCBvPBKS
