We love you Shami – India’s cricket fraternity comes out in support of pacer after abuse on social media

Mohammed Shami was abused on social media after his below-par performance against Pakistan. Despite being an Indian, his bowling was judged on the basis of his religion. Shami conceded 43 runs in 3.5 overs. The comments were nasty and were meant to tarnish his image. After fans rallied behind the fast bowler, former and current Indian cricketers too came out in full support. Virender Sehwag was the first one who spoke in favour of Shami and slammed the trolls. After him, Irfan also condemned the incident.

Meanwhile, Shami was not the only one who had an ordinary day against Pakistan, the entire Indian team failed to perform as a unit in their first match of the ICC T20 World Cup campaign.

Mohammad Rizwan (79 not out) and captain Babar Azam (68 not out) struck superb unbeaten half-centuries and eased Pakistan to 152-0 in 17.5 overs in Group 2 of the Super 12s.

Fast bowler Shaheen Afridi (3-31) had earlier rattled India’s top order by removing both openers — Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul — in his first two overs before skipper Virat Kohli’s 57 off 49 balls took the 2007 champion to 151-7.
