Williamson’s decision to bat first backfired as they lost wickets at regular intervals, failing to score runs off the bowling of Tim Southee and the spin duo of Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine.
Apart from Kane (26) and Abdul Samad (25), none of the batters tried to stay at the crease.
