‘Virat will naturally walk into the XI at No. 3. But the time has come for the selectors to decide’

Virat Kohli is going through a prolonged slump in his career. The star batter has not hit a century since 2019, leading to criticism and speculation about his future with the national team. While some believe Kohli needs an extended break, others want to see him playing regular cricket.

Deepak Hooda and Shreyas Iyer are the top contenders as backups for the 33-year-old former India skipper.

Former national selector Saba Karim believes Kohli will come into the side whenever he returns, but Hooda or Iyer can be kept as backups.

“When Virat Kohli is available, he will naturally walk into the XI at No. 3. But the time has come for the selectors to decide on his back-up.

If they believe that Shreyas Iyer is good, they should go with him. If their trust is in Deepak Hooda, he should be backed by them,” he said.

Earlier, former batter Wasim Jaffer backed Virat to bat at his No.3 spot once he joins the team.
