Virat made big mistake by announcing his decision to quit T20Is captaincy – Former players
Virat Kohli announced that he will leave the T20I captaincy after the ICC T20 World Cup a month before the tournament started. Former cricketers Maninder Singh and Monty Panesar feel that the decision ahead of the World Cup was not taken in a positive manner and possibly impacted India’s performance in the mega event.
“I don’t want to blame Virat here. There are some players who were thinking that they want to replace Virat as the next captain. Virat made a big mistake in announcing the decision ahead of the tournament. He should have played the tournament and then at the end of the tournament, whatever India’s result was, announced that – I am quitting T20I captaincy,” Panesar told TimesofIndia.com in an exclusive interview.
“The disappointment will always be there with Virat. Before the T20 World Cup, the captain comes and says it is going to be my last tournament as T20I captain. A lot of things created confusion basically and this will always have an effect on the performance. And it has happened,” Maninder signed off.
