Virat Kohli wants to keep captaincy in ODIs over fear of losing brand value
A lot of reports are doing the round ever since Virat Kohli announced that he will be stepping down as India’s T20I skipper after the T20 World Cup. He could lose his captaincy in ODIs as well if India fail to do well in the T20 World Cup.
Many feel he should have quit the ODI captaincy as well. If the reports in The Telegraph India are to be believed, the 32-year old wants to continue as an ODI skipper as leaving the post would impact his brand value. However, market experts are not ready to buy these reports and pointed out how Sachin Tendulkar’s brand value never got impacted.
“Sachin Tendulkar’s endorsements never went down even when he gave up captaincy. The same applies to Virat Kohli. If he gives up ODI captaincy too, it might make a small dent but nothing dramatic,” Navroze D Dhondy, founder and managing director of Creatigies Communications, said.
Meanwhile, both the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah lauded Virat Kohli for his contribution as a leader in T20Is. Rohit Sharma is expected to lead India in the shortest format of the game.
