Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should be rested from T20Is – Virender Sehwag

Former India opening batsman Virender Sehwag feels it is necessary that the young cricketers are groomed for the next edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. For that to happen, senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma be rested for the T20I home series against New Zealand to give young guns a much-needed experience to be ready for the big event in 2022.

“Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul and perhaps in the next world cup Ruturaj Gaikwad could be there and also Shreyas Iyer as well. These players can be groomed and given opportunities because they are the future. So, the rest of the senior players can be given a break so that these players can play in the T20 series being played at home and gain some experience and prepare themselves for the next World Cup.”

The national selectors are planning to rest a few senior players for the home series against New Zealand. KL Rahul could lead the side in absence of Rohit Sharma, who is expected to take over from Virat Kohli after the global event in the UAE.
