Shreyas Iyer is India’s future captain – Former player

Shreyas Iyer has impressed everyone in his career so far. He has been a regular part of India in white-ball cricket. He played a few handy knocks in the home series in England and was expected to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup. But an unfortunate injury in the series against England ruled him out of some assignments and the first half of the IPL as well.

He was not included in the main T20 World Cup squad but was named as a travelling reserve.

The former Australia spinner Brad Hogg believes that Iyer is the future captain of India. “He has come back from injury, he is under a lot of pressure, and he did not get picked in the main T20 squad for India. The one thing that I saw in the press conference was that I’m thinking this guy could be a future leader for India,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

In Iyer’s absence, Pant was told to lead the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. Iyer made a comeback in the UAE leg and played a match-winning innings in the first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“It was just the way that he went about the processes with his own game. He does not get too far ahead of himself. He’s got his routines and processes that he goes through and he does not go away from that.”

Delhi Capitals are leading the points table at the moment.

“That’s why Delhi Capitals have been at the top of the ladder, because of players like Iyer, who know their role in the team, being a team man and not being upset that Pant is continuing the captaincy role after he had it previously. He puts his team first,” Hogg said.
