Rahul Dravid has inherited a great team – Ravi Shastri

Team India’s outgoing head coach Ravi Shastri said that new coach Rahul Dravid has inherited a great team and he can only take the squad to new heights. Dravid’s first assignment would be the home T20I series against New Zealand.

“In Rahul Dravid, they’ve got a guy who has inherited a great team and I think with his experience, he can only raise the bar in time to come. There are still players here who will play for another 3-4 years which is very important. It is not a team in transition and that’ll make the biggest difference,” Shastri said before the game against Namibia in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.

Earlier, Rahul has thanked the BCCI for believing in him. “It is an absolute honour to be appointed as the new Head Coach of the Indian cricket team, and I am really looking forward to this role. Under Shastri, the team has done very well, and I hope to work with the team to take it forward.

“Having worked closely with most of the boys either at NCA, under-19 and India ‘A’ set up, I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day.

“There are some marquee multi-team events in the next two years, and I look forward to working with the players and the support staff to achieve our potential,” Dravid had said in a statement.
