R Ashwin has been India’s best spinner in international cricket. The veteran has more than 400 wickets in Test cricket. But despite boasting a phenomenal track record, he has often been found on the bench or out of the team in shorter formats. Ashwin was not even included in the playing XI in the Test series in England.
He made it to the ICC T20 World Cup squad but was not considered for the first game against Pakistan. He was among the wickets in the warm-up games ahead of the world event in the UAE. Former Aussie pacer Brett Lee has spoken in favour of the Indian spinner.
“If you are after an angle about Ashwin, he is first and foremost a wonderful cricketer. I am a big fan and he has got a lot to offer, he is very very experienced. He is a great leader and of course, he can play every single game. They (team management) chose not to play him and that is on them. But whether he should be in the XI is up to the selectors and captain to make a call,” Lee was quoted as saying to ANI.
