PCB likely to offer Rs 1.84 crore to attract international star players in PSL – Report

Ramiz Raja, the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is looking all set to take Pakistan cricket to new heights. Under his leadership, the national cricket body is thinking to offer lucrative deals to star players in order to make Pakistan Super League more popular. He will hold a meeting with the franchise owners to talk about the proposal.

The former Pakistan captain believes PSL can attract big T20 players from across the globe. If reports are to be believed, marquee players could be offered up to $250,000 (1.84 crore INR) per season. At present, the maximum contract deal is $160,000 (1.18 crore INR).

“Ramiz is due to meet the franchise owners on Friday to discuss different issues pertaining to the league in special connection with making it more robust, eye-catching — the one having star attraction,” a source was quoted as saying by The News.

“One of the main agenda items is to offer more lucrative packages to the superstars of the game. Some leading stars may get richer by around a quarter a million for featuring in the PSL from 2022 onwards. Though some key players already are seen to become part of the league, the fresh package is expected to lure even bigger stars from across the world to make a serious effort to play the league,” he added.

PSL franchise owners want a better financial package. Ramiz wants to end the issues at the earliest.

“Ramiz wants to make the PSL more attractive and financially more lucrative for cricketers around the world. These PSL owners have been complaining about the lack of a sane approach in the financial package they have been offered by the PCB. The owners want compensation and their rightful share in the entire earnings. These issues will also be discussed in the meeting that is likely to continue for hours,” asserted the source.
