Maiden win against India lifted our confidence in ICC T20 World Cup – Mohammad Hafeez

Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez believes beating India for the first time in an ICC tournament gave them a big confidence booster. Pakistan thumped India by 10 wickets in their opening fixture of the ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE.

This was Pakistan’s first win in as many as 13 attempts against India in the history of World Cups (ODI and T20I).

The Men in Green are on an impressive run in the global tournament, winning four consecutive matches. Having booked their place in the semi-finals, Pakistan will face Scotland in their last group stage match tomorrow.

Speaking on the eve of the clash, Hafeez revealed that the memorable victory against India took the team’s confidence to another level.

“In any tournament when you win the first match, it gives you confidence so when we beat India it lifted our confidence hugely. I have been part of many World Cup matches against India and after all those defeats we had to bear the consequences but we always used to have strong comebacks. This time we won and it was great to be part of that team that beat India.”
