Joe Root wants to play in IPL as league expands in 2022

The Indian Premier League will witness the arrival of two new franchise from the next edition in 2022. Joe Root, who leads England in Test matches, wants to be a part of the cash-rich league. He will be entering the auction next year with a view of making his debut for the very first time.

He had previously entered the auction but was never purchased by any franchise. Also, England’s schedule doesn’t clash with the IPL and that might open doors for the right-handed batter.

“At some point of my career, I am desperate to be a part of an IPL season,” he said earlier this year when he announced that he wouldn’t be a part of this year’s auction owing to his national commitments. “Hopefully, a few more beyond that as well. It is something I would love to experience, and love to be a part of,” Root added.

He will lead England in the upcoming Ashes in Australia. Root is one of the best batsmen in the purest format of the game.
