I would release Bhuvi but not him – Sehwag names 1 SRH player he would retain before auction
Sunrisers Hyderabad have failed to get going in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. They sacked Captain David Warner from his post in the first leg and appointed Kane Williamson as the team’s new captain. However, the fortunes have not changed as SRH has underperformed in the UAE leg as well.
Despite’s their poor run, SRH will surely retain a few players before the mega auction in 2022. The BCCI has not announced the rules for the retention but the team would be allowed to retain 3 or 5 players.
Before the end of the ongoing season, former India player Virender Sehwag has made his pick and selected Rashid Khan as the only bowler he would retain from the current SRH camp.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said: “From these bowlers [current SRH players] I would not retain even a single one, not even Bhuvneshwar Kumar. I agree that he will be playing for India, he is a brilliant T20 bowler, but if SRH has to retain only one bowler, the amount of money (INR 15-16 crores) they will have to spend would be way too much. They might be able to acquire Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the auction at a lower price,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
“That call [whether foreign players can be retained or not] has not been made yet. If indeed foreign players can be retained, then Rashid Khan is a no-brainer of a choice. No matter the team, everyone would want to retain that kind of a player, he is that good”.
