I would love to play one more World Cup, don’t think I will be allowed – Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle has said he wants to play in another ICC T20 World Cup but conceded that his international career is almost over. The left-handed batter was given a guard of honour by his teammates and the Aussie player after the game.

The southpaw scored 15 runs off 9 balls and even dismissed Mitchell Marsh.

Speaking to the ICC on Facebook after the game, he said:

“I was just having some fun today. Put everything that happened aside. I was just interacting with the fans in the stand and just having some fun seeing as it’s going to be my last World Cup game.”

Gayle accepted that his dream of featuring in another World Cup is not going to see daylight.

“I’d love to play one more World Cup. But I don’t think they will allow me,” said Gayle.”It’s been a phenomenal career. I didn’t announce any retirement but they actually give me one game in Jamaica to go in front of my home crowd, then I can say ‘hey guys, thank you so much.’ Let’s see. If not, I’ll announce it a long time and then I’ll be joining DJ Bravo in the backend and say thanks to each and everyone but I can’t say that as yet.” he added.

He represented West Indies in 103 Tests, 301 ODIs and 79 T20s, scoring 7215, 10480 and 1899 runs respectively.
