Devdutt Padikkal should replace Virat Kohli as skipper of RCB – Ashish Nehra

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have qualified for the playoffs in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after finishing third in the table with 18 points. However, they will have to look for a new skipper as Virat will be stepping down from his post after the 14th season of the cash-rich league.

Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra believes that Devdutt Padikkal can lead the team from 2022 onwards.

While many RCB loyalists and T20 cricket experts want AB de Villiers to become the next skipper, Nehra opined that Padikkal has the potential to lead the franchise.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Nehra said: “Devdutt Padikkal has the ability to lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore team effectively. If the team is looking for a player as the captain for a long time, then they will have to hand over the captaincy to Padikkal.” Padikkal made his IPL debut in 2020 and has scored 822 runs from 26 games in the IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In IPL 2021, the left-handed batter has notched up 390 runs in 13 matches.
