Bad news for Virat as BCCI to approach Anil Kumble for head coach’s post

Virat Kohli is losing his grip on Indian cricket. After deciding to quit T20 captain post the T20 World Cup in UAE, he has been handed another blow by the BCCI.

According to reports, the governing body of Indian cricket is set to approach Anil Kumble for the role of a head coach once again.

Kumble, the former captain and legendary leg-spinner, was head coach of the team before he decided to step down in 2017 after his rift with skipper Virat Kohli.

Four years ago, soon after Kumble’s exit, Kohli had forced the BCCI to appoint Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the team.

It is believed that BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had wanted Kumble to continue in 2017, despite Kohli’s stand, when he was a part of the BCCI’s Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC).

Kumble is in UAE as head coach and director of cricket operations for the IPL franchise Punjab Kings.

Earlier, BCCI had contacted former Sri Lanka captain and current Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene for the post of head coach. However, he declined the offer as he wants to coach the Sri Lankan team, and the IPL franchise.

If Kumble comes on board, he will have to leave Punjab Kings as dual roles are not allowed in the Indian setup.
