Ashwin’s selection for T20 WC is a consolation prize for his exclusion from Test series – Gavaskar
BCCI has announced the team for T20 World Cup 2021 which is set to start in the UAE. The selection of many players was surprising. While the comeback of R Ashwin was welcomed, the omission of Yuzvendra Chahal and Shikhar Dhawan was not welcomed by the fans and cricket experts.
Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar recently spoke about R Ashwin’s selection for the mega ICC event.
Ashwin has failed to find a place in the playing XI in the ongoing Test series between England and India.
“Ashwin’s selection is good news for Indian cricket but whether he is included in the XI remains to be seen. He is chosen in the squad for the England test series but has not been given a game yet. Perhaps it is a consolation prize for Ashwin to make up for his disappointment of the Test series,” said Gavaskar while speaking to Sports Tak.
Another surprising news was the addition of MS Dhoni as a mentor. “India won three ICC titles under MS Dhoni and if he stays within the Indian camp that the Indian team can reap the rewards of his presence,” added Gavaskar.
