Ajinkya Rahane is in Team India due to past performances – Saba Karim

Former India wicketkeeper Saba Karim recently stated that Ajinkya Rahane is in the Test team due to his performances in the past. However, he acknowledged that the right-hander has failed to justify his place in the squad. Karim’s remarks came after the Indian vice-captain was dismissed without troubling the scorers in the second innings of the fourth Test against England.

Saba Karim was not satisfied with Ravindra Jadeja coming ahead of Rahane in the batting order.

“Rahane is in the team because of his experience and past performances. I agree that he didn’t contribute in recent times but I am of the view that, irrespective of the conditions, an experienced batsman should play.”

According to him, there is a lot of pressure on Rahane, which could be the reason behind his failures in recent times.

“The problem is that he has lots of clutter & confusion in his mind. He has lost focus, is not watching the ball and is under lots of pressure.”
