286 off 224 balls, 4 fifties – Ajinkya Rahane is ruling T20 competition in India
Ajinkya Rahane, who is considered a Test specialist these days, is making his performance count in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. The veteran has scored 286 runs off 224 runs in 5 matches. Rahane has hit four fifties and he is the leading run-scorer in the competition.
Playing for Mumbai, he has shown his class in the slam-bang version of the game. The right-handed batter is leading Mumbai in the tournament and if he continues in the same fashion, there is a chance of him playing every game in the next edition of IPL.
He scored 75 off 54 balls in the first match against Karnataka. However, his team lost the match by just 9 runs. Chasing 167 runs to win, Mumbai managed 157 for 6 in 20 overs. In the second match against Services, he accumulated 54 runs off 44 balls and Mumbai defeated the rivals by 17 runs.
Despite scoring just 131 for 7 in the third game with Bengal, Mumbai thumped the rivals by 10 runs. Ajinkya Rahane scored 17 off 16 balls.
His 55-ball 69 went in vain as Chattisgarh came on top against Mumbai by just 1 run in the fourth game of Rahane’s captaincy.
Mumbai returned to the winning way in the fifth match of the season. Prithvi Shaw (83 off 63 balls) and Ajinkya Rahane (71 off 45 balls) took the score to 193 for 2 in 20 overs. Baroda managed just 111 for 9 in the chase.
